Sometimes I can be the WORST at making decisions and other times I know exactly what I want. Recently I thought I had my paint color all picked out for my new my bathroom renovation but after painting the entire room I hated it! The lighting in the store was WAY different then in my bathroom and it made the color look hideous. So I decided to redo the entire thing. The paint color is like the icing on the cake. Get it wrong and it can kill the whole vibe. It also has the power to transform a space all on its own. Lets unpack the 2023 paint colors and trends for the new year so you can be ready to transform spaces the right way!

2023 Paint Colors and Trends
2023 Paint Color Trend #1 – Earthy Tones
This trend comes straight from the 2023 Sherwin Williams color forecast pallet called “Biome,” so cleverly meaning: a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat, e.g. forest or tundra.
Looking at the inspiration of earth and sky, you will quickly see how fitting the name is. This color pallet is beautiful and reminds us to slow down in our ever changing world.
This palette gives me a sense of peace and tranquility. Almost a staple in the hectic days of ever changing trends. This palette is versatile and timeless. You can create a dreamy countryside kitchen or a sophisticated living room all with earth inspired tones.
Here is SW – Evergreen fog featured in a kitchen with natural wood furniture and flooring, creamy neutral trim and stone accents tie this color in perfectly!
What a gorgeous mix of both SW – Mount Etna and SW – Shiitake. Don’t be afraid to be bold. Sophisticated and yet still earth inspiring with peaceful tones to balance out the bold fireplace.

2023 Paint Color Trend #2 – Vintage Romance
I call this vintage romance because more and more I am seeing vintage inspired design in furniture and in color. Lets check out some colors that give us all the vintage feels!
Let me introduce a color that brings all the drama from HGTV + Sherwin Williams paint color of the year for 2023 – Darkroom. This dark neutral creates comfort, elegance, and sparks that romance in a space.
For many years the cool tones had us in a chokehold. Now, we are seeing more and more warm tones coming to life in many ways. Red is making a comeback. One of the most romantic colors in existence. From the Luscious red lipstick to the beautiful red in a sunset we are loving our reds.
Starting off with Sherwin Williams 2023 paint color of the year – SW 9081 Redend Point. Bringing warmth and intrigue. This is a subtitle hue of red and yet its so versatile. It looks good everywhere. Kitchen cabinets, furniture, even accents. Can you tell I love this color?!
2023 Paint Color Trend #3 – Old And New
We are seeing a lot of old and new mixed together nowadays. Color is no exception. Mix a color from the past with a color trend from today and watch magic happen.
This Pewter Green by Sherwin Williams is a great example. Here it feels very vintage, yet modern. We have light flooring with a mix of traditional furniture to tie it together and give us a feel of elegance but still being down to earth.

Glamour by Sherwin Williams is so exception. Here we are seeing a warm tone. Simple yet sophisticated. Modern yet vintage. Pairing a modern vanity with vintage touches ties this small bath together.
I think 2023 is all about the classics. We are getting away from the cool neutrals and leaning more into the warm tones that were loved for so long. Bringing a lot of earthy tones that feel classic and sophisticated with touches on vintage to make us feel comfort. Its a sense of nostalgia and home in this chaotic world.
This will definitely be a challenge for me as I love grey, cool tones but I am going to do my best to lean into the warm tones in 2023 and let that reflect in some of my new projects this year. Hope you enjoyed my little take on the 2023 paint color trends for the new year!
