Coming up with our modern farmhouse tile selection for the guest bath took ohhhh about 3 months. YIKES I wanted something timeless, not boring, and budget friendly. I tend to struggle with design choices when they are for my own projects.
Before we get to it, I want to walk you through how I made my selection to help make your tile choice a little less overwhelming! The first thing I did was search on Pinterest and saved anything I was drawn to. This really helped when I arrived at the store to give the design center a little direction which in turn helps narrow down a decision.
Modern Farmhouse Tile Selection : Guest Bath
Step 1: Search for visual tile inspiration
It can be so overwhelming when having to choose tile because there are SO MANY SELECTIONS! I always head straight to Pinterest to see what I am interested in and narrow it down from there. For this bath, I really wanted a timeless look but not boring, if you know what I mean. I noticed I was drawn to the color blue and a the handmade look of the zelige tile. Here are a few of my pins below:

There was just something about the blue and white that I really loved.
I really love the look of the handmade tile! Also, this color is more in my comfort zone whereas I am a little afraid of the blue color.
Last but not least, I really loved this tile from FireClay tile. Its not blue, its not gray and it still gave that classy feel without the handmade look.
Step 2: Go shopping for tile selections
I decided to just walk through Floor & Décor (the tile store near me that literally has everything, from tile, vanity, flooring etc.!) and see what felt right! I partnered with one other design consultants to help me out. Because of my Pinterest selections, she had a feel for what my style was and was able to guide me easier.
These selections where so spot on for the wall tile based on my modern farmhouse tile selections from Pinterest. Lets check them out.
Wall tile selection #1 – was a “Zelige” subway tile in a smokey blue color ( my favorite) and ultimately what we chose to use!
Wall tile selection #2 – Traditional Zelige in powder blue. I honestly loved this one but felt it would stick me too much in a trend.
ZELLIGE CALEDONIA CERAMIC TILE
Wall tile selection #3 – Modern farmhouse tile selection #3 was to calm my nerves about using a color lol. I REALLY wanted to step outside my comfort zone on this but couldn’t help to fall in the trap of going to what I know. My advise to you if you are going through this on a project, just pick it up, and keep looking at your original inspo. At first I really thought I would end up with this tile because it still had the handmade look but in a color pallet that was more what I was comfortable with but I didn’t end up choosing it after I paired it with the floor tile I chose. The color just didn’t end up looking near as nice as my tile inspo photos and therefor I ended up not selecting it.
ZELLIGE PEARL OPAL POLISHED CERAMIC TILE
Wall tile selection #4 – AHH okay so it was SO HARD for me not to choose this one. It has the same coloring as the zelige square tile but with perfectly straight edges. This tile was also slimmer then the other tiles and the one I ended up choose but it just didn’t have the handmade look. If you know me, you know I will always pick the same thing over and over, even at restaurants. Sometimes we have to step outside of our comfort zone and trust the process. So that’s what I am doing lol. I know what I liked when I looked for the inspo, and I just don’t think this will give me the same outcome and I will just be disappointed.

Step #4 – Trust the process
My biggest piece of advice is to trust the process. It can be so overwhelming but making selections and putting everything together can really help your vision come to life. Try not to get overwhelmed when shopping and re visit your inspo photos to get back on track. I am so excited to get started on this project and share the other details.
